Third in the dumpling trilogy (mums and buns, dads and dumplings) and it's one of our favourite duos, @chubbydumplinguk. Dad & daughter, Chantelle and Joe have been serving dumpling/noodle boxes from their chubby ride since feb this year and here's why they decided to join forces and steam dreams.
Routes: 64 year old Joe was born in Hong Kong and came to England when he was 17 to study marine biology at Portsmouth. Secretly wanting to open his own restaurant, while studying he juggled jobs in hospitality, kitchens and hotels then moved to Salisbury after graduating (sorry fishes) and opened his own place - Jade, which was going for 30 years strong. "I loved owning a restaurant because I was introducing people to food they hadn’t had before and they loved it. It's very satisfying teaching people about your culture and when I opened it, people had never seen a live lobster before; I used to bring it to peoples tables alive and put it in front of them before he took it off to the kitchen to kill it and serve it to them. Felt like I was teaching people the importance of fresh food, which is what I grew up with in Hong Kong where you could just go down to the market and grab a fresh fish or a live turtle or get a chicken killed for your dinner". 27 year old Chantelle studied fashion design at Bournemouth then Bristol, moved to London to be a designer but always wanted to work in the food industry and open her own cafe (her Brother owns Mr Bao restaurants and she grew up stuffing dumps in her dads restaurant hence the nickname - chubby dumpling as she was quite the fatty!) Her dad closed the restaurant two years ago but he missed making dumplings so much Chantelle thought shed put her dads twiddling fingers to use (he was making dumplings anyway!) and begun, chubby dumpling.
Roots: For both Chantelle and Joe, dumplings are childhood memories. Joe used to make them with his mum, as a kid and because in Hong Kong the street food is so cheap he bought snacks from there daily. On Sundays they always had dim sum.
Fruits: New fillings and chilli sauces (made by mum) coming 2020.
